Dr. Daniel Kaplan joined UGA in 2022 and has a dual role as the Associate Director for the UGA Research Institute and a Senior Research Scientist in Environmental Molecular Sciences. Prior to joining UGA, he conducted research for five years at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and 22 years at the Savannah River National Laboratory, both U.S. Department of Energy research facilities. He is active in the American Chemical Society, American Geophysical Union, and Geochemical Society and has been an associate editor to four journals: presently with Journal of Environmental Radioactivity. Among the awards he has received are the Secretary of the Department of Energy’s Achievement Award, an R&D 100 Invention Award, and the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council’s Young Investigator’s Award. Dr. Kaplan has 10 patents or pending patents, over 200 publications and has given over 70 invited presentations around the world. He has been on the research committees of 22 M.S. or Ph.D. students.
